Consumption inequality (Gini) and multidimensional poverty (MPI) are published officially for every state, so we show them directly rather than rebuilding them.
Indices we don't build
Happiness, democracy, press freedom, freedom and corruption-perception indices rest on surveys of how people feel or on expert ratings of rights, elections and the media. No official state-level data measures these, and stand-ins (such as corruption cases registered, which reflect enforcement rather than corruption) would mislead, so we leave them out.
